Our History

A journey of a thousand miles always starts with a single step. The proprietress, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, in furtherance of her vision in the world of education decided to establish Alaba Lawson Royal College in September 1995, with fourteen students made up of eight boys and six girls. The pioneer Principal was late Mr. J.D. Agyemang. As at the time the school was about to graduate her first set in 2001, the population has risen to 146 students made up of 68 boys and 78 girls. Presently the population of the school is close to 200 students. There are 28 qualified teaching staff, school administrator, Vice principal, Principal and Director of School. At Alaba Lawson Royal College, we are committed to building future leaders from the basics which is JSS 1 to SSS 3 (i.e., adulthood). We provide excellent education that takes care of every aspect of the child’s life.
Over the years, it has been a steady record of success achieved through determination to the best at what we do. In particular, our most important aims are:
• Building self-confidence and increasing independence
• Encouraging self-expression
• Developing a sense of responsibility and awareness of moral values
• Knowledge and understanding of the world.
We strive to offer highest quality education and believe that we are the right choice so far.
Sixteen different sets have graduated from the Royal College. The excellent academic results in JSCE, WASSCE, NECO and SSCE successive sets tell the story. However, it is not just a case of academic excellence but most importantly, a case of discipline “WITHOUT DISCIPLINE” it would be almost impossible to achieve any sort of academic success.
The school has participated in many local, national and international competitions and performed credibly with outstanding results. In sport, the school is also a force to reckon with in cricket. The cricket team has won several laurels in their various competitions, both locally and nationally.
In an effort to match the classrooms learning with outdoor activities, the school usually organizes various programmes both locally and internationally. This motivates the ambitions of the students in their various fields of endeavours.

The teachers are not left out of the workshops and training to improve their productivity. They are professional, diligent, dedicated and committed staff.
The College has well-equipped science laboratories, well stocked library, computer/ICT laboratories as well as spacious and ventilated classrooms. The school also engages in activities that keep the students physically and mentally alert. There are clubs and societies for them to join according to their talents. They include :
• Literary and Debating society • Drama, JET Club, Cultural and Folklore • Musical/Instrumentalist • Games and Sporting activities • Voluntary organisations The school also embarks on local and international excursions to widen the scope of their knowledge.
